Certificates in Spanish
The Spanish certificates prepares students with a basic language competency and cultural awareness. A certificate will create a competitive advantage for any student completing a major in education, criminology/criminal justice, social work, the medical field, business, etc.
Requirements for the Spanish Certificate for Criminal Justice and Social Services (with a focus on language skills and terminology for the following professions: criminology, sociology, psychology, and social work)
(All courses are 3 credits unless noted)
Pre-requisites:
- 3 years of high school Spanish
- For students who have no high school Spanish or who have 1 to 2 years of high school Spanish, the department will be offering accelerated introductory language classes in an an 8-week format: SPA 101 (for a student with 0 or one year of Spanish) in Term I and SPA 102 (for a student with 2 years of Spanish) in Term II in a single semester, in both the fall and spring semesters
Required Courses:
- SPA 210 - Spanish for Social Services
- SPA 215 - Spanish for Criminal Justice and Sociology
- SPA 203* - Conversation and Composition I
- SPA 204* - Conversation and Composition II
Total Credits for Certificate: 12
