Social Work Department

The Cabrini University Social Work Program prepares graduates for professional social work practice through education in general social work knowledge, values, and skills.

Embedded in Cabrini’s liberal arts foundation and dedication to community service and rooted in the heritage of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, the social work program strives to manifest Cabrini’s mission.

The program cultivates leadership and excellence in practice through experiences in classroom learning, field instruction, and direct engagement in action to end social and economic injustice.

The Cabrini Social Work Program and the larger Cabrini community share a commitment to the common good and strive to prepare graduates to serve their communities and the world in ways that will enhance human dignity and justice for all people.

The program aims to:

  • educate students in a vibrant learning environment characterized by active faculty and student engagement in community service and partnerships, community-based research, and local, national and international immersion experiences within a social justice emphasis
  • train students to become effective, innovative professional social workers who will apply their knowledge and critical thinking skills to practice according to social work values and social justice principles
  • prepare students for entry level generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities
  • ground students in knowledge of social work’s history, purposes, and values integrated within Cabrini University’s liberal arts framework and Core Values of respect, vision, community, and dedication to excellence
  • prepare students to pursue graduate education

Social Work faculty provide advising, guidance, information and links to resources such as internships, employment opportunities and the graduate school application process.

Social Work majors may earn a bachelor of social work degree, enabling them to begin professional social work practice or to pursue graduate education.

Social Work courses are structured and sequenced to prepare students for entry into the social work field with the professional development of knowledge, skills and values appropriate for baccalaureate-level positions.

Graduates who complete all requirements and demonstrate an acceptable level of professionalism receive a bachelor of social work degree. Recent graduates have demonstrated ability in working with individuals, families, groups, program development and community services.
