Spectacle Living and Learning Community
Film, Media, & Theatre LLC
In the interdisciplinary Spectacle Living and Learning Community (LLC), students will learn how to be intelligent consumers and critical interpreters of the forms of mass culture that surround them.
Students will:
- take a day-trip to New York to explore the Museum of the Moving Image, an education venue that bridges the study of film, television, and digital media in a state-of-the-art facility
- work closely with faculty and “The Cabrini Film Society” to develop and execute an LLC‑designed film festival on campus
- experience guest speakers selected by the faculty with an eye toward a filmmaker, actor, producer, or media critic who will present at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI) as part of the BMFI's ongoing film education program
- gain first-hand experience with the positive role of film in social justice initiatives, as will be exemplified by a collaboration with the aid organization “FilmAid International”
This LLC is open to students interested in any major. All students in this LLC will share the ability to assess the media and its implications for understanding their own lives—and the challenging historical moments that surround them.
