K-12 Administrative I Certification

33 credits

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership program is offered in an accelerated, cohort model only with classes held Monday evenings from 4:35-9:45pm. 

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership program can be completed with or without K-12 Principal Certification.

If you are pursuing your K-12 Administrative/Principal Certificate, you will need to have three years of teaching experience and hold an Instructional I or II Certificate.

In addititon to the graduate application those pursuing a K-12 Administrative/Principal Certification must submit:

  • Philosophy of Education
  • Essay discussing “how principals shape learning in their schools”
  • Recommendation letter from supervisor- speaking specifically to the candidate's leadership abilities and potential  

Courses are 3 credits each unless noted

Master of Education Courses (9 credits)

  • EDG 501 - Educational Research
  • EDG 521 - Sociocultural Foundations of Education 
  • EDG 540 - Philosophical Foundations of Education  

Principal/Administrative I Courses (24 credits)


  • EDG 640 - The Principalship (30 hours)
  • EDG 644 - Instructional Leadership (30 hours)  
  • EDG 647 - School Law  
  • EDG 643 - Management and Decision Making (30 hours)  
  • EDG 645 - Supervision and Performance Evaluation (30 hours)  
  • EDG 646 - Technology and Communications  (30 hours)
  • EDG 658 - Special Education Administration (30 hours)  
  • EDG 659-  Principal Internship  (180 hours)  

For PreK-12 principal certification, 360 on-site hours that span the 12-month life cycle of a school year are required in this program as per PDE mandates.

Required: 180 hours field and 180 hours internship

Field experiences are embedded within courses, as indicated, and require a log and a job-embedded field project to be completed on-site and assessed by a mentoring administrator and course instructor.

Please note, international students must be enrolled full-time at Cabrini to be eligible for admission.
