Training Opportunities for Educators

The Center provides customized professional development opportunities that can be completed online, face-to-face on Cabrini’s campus or your own site, or a hybrid of both. 

Educational programs include: 

• DVA 521 Domestic Violence Awareness 101 for Educators (1 credit)
  Modules 1, 2, and 3 provide an overview of domestic violence. Participants will be able to define domestic violence; recognize the myths and realities associated with domestic violence; analyze the dimensions of power and control in a domestic violence relationship; and evaluate the complexities of domestic violence.
• DVA 522 Domestic Violence as a Social Justice Issue (1 credit)
  Modules 4, 5, and 6 explore the concept of domestic violence as it relates to social justice. Participants will be able to determine how the terms social justice and domestic violence are related and participants will evaluate what makes domestic violence a human rights violation.
• DVA 523 The Impact of Trauma on Learning and Mandated Reporting (1 credit)
  Modules 7, 8, and 9 provide strategies that educators can use in the classroom to better educate children who have been impacted by trauma. Participants will be able to explore how exposure to violence interferes with social development, cognitive skills, and language development. Participants will further evaluate the impact that trauma can have on a child’s self-regulation skills and the common feelings and behaviors children of trauma may express. Participants will use children’s literature to develop lessons that could be used in the classroom to create conversations with children who have witnessed domestic violence and/or trauma. Lastly, the mandated reporting process and requirements will be identified and discussed.
