At our Division III school, many students enjoy playing sports for the school. The student-athletes sometimes play more than one sport, too, ranging from soccer to basketball to lacrosse to rowing and much more. Through all of the sporting events, there is always a good sportsmanship mentality.
Here are a few benefits of being a student-athlete:
-
Making friends: There are a lot of student-athletes on every team, which creates close relationships, lifelong friends, and bonds with other sports teams. All student-athletes are in the gym a lot and make friends with other athletes.
-
Experience: Student-athletes find jobs in the athletics field pretty fast. There are always places looking for youth coaches, and college athletes are some of the best people to coach these groups.
-
Staying active: This is a good way to show school spirit and a great way to be active around the community. If any of the teams are not in season, the athletes are lifting, practicing and even going to other athletic events.
- School spirit: Student-athletes and their parents and friends are always showing school spirit, whether its at their own games and practices or at other sporting events at the university throughout the school year.
These are four simple reasons why being a student-athlete can make a difference during your time here. No matter how crazy it may feel, being a student-athlete throughout your college career can change how you view university.
