Must-Have Items for Living on Campus

Posted on 4/27/2018 8:06:48 PM by Keegan McKoskey

Living on campus is a process. If you’re a freshman, you could possibly have a new roommate or not have any idea what to bring to your dorm room. There are some things that you should make sure to have whether you’re a freshman or a senior.

Some items to make sure you have when moving into a dorm are:

  • Extra chargers (because you will inevitably forget or misplace your phone charger at least once)
  • Plastic utensils (for the time you make mac n' cheese and don’t want to eat it without a fork)
  • Extra towels and underwear (because sometimes you don't keep up with laundry, and you never want to not have a set of clean towels or be in a situation where you don’t have clean underwear)

There were many times where I would lose my charger freshman year and have to run out to the nearest Five Below or campus store.

I couldn’t begin to name how many times I would go to make food and forget that I didn’t have any utensils. This would result in me snagging tons of cutlery from Wawa when I would buy food from there. I would always get some looks stuffing 10-15 forks and spoons into a Wawa bag along with my medium mac and cheese cup. This moment created the greatest excuse I’ve ever used, which is, “I’m a broke college student.” When I started using this phrase, everybody had the same reaction. They would laugh and then totally understand. It almost seemed like I could get away with anything as long as I used this phrase.

Some other easily-forgettable items to bring along during your move-in process are:

  • Extra toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Pens/pencils
  • Index cards
  • Water
  • Ramen
  • Body wash
  • Deodorant
  • Extra Pillows

Many items you bring to college, you may never use. But others, you will be glad that you brought them along the journey.
