When Everyone Comes Home to Cabrini

Posted on 6/27/2017 4:08:56 PM

Homecoming 2017 is going to be a throwback.

As it was in previous decades, Alumni Weekend will combine with Homecoming, enriching the community celebration with all generations of our Cabrini family, including our current students.

Members of the Class of 1966 had the chance to preview this experience last year, when their reunion was held during Homecoming weekend.

“Our 50th reunion was something special because it was combined with Homecoming,” Joan Buzzallino (’66) said. “We had students with us throughout the day. Hearing their excitement for our college brought back some fond memories. The campus was alive with their presence.”

“The students made us feel most welcome,” Anne Marie Riggio (’66) said. “It was a wonderful event and will be a lasting memory.”

Beginning this year, in celebration of our 60th anniversary, we are excited to bring back the tradition of Homecoming encompassing the Alumni Weekend events, such as reunions, the evening Mansion event, and the Alumni Memorial Mass. This year, the combined event will take place on the weekend of Oct. 14, kicking off with a bonfire pep rally on Thursday, Oct. 12, and with the majority of events taking place Saturday and Sunday.

“I think the combination was terrific,” Nancy Gustafson (’66) said. “It was like seeing myself 50 years ago (it hardly feels that long). The campus was alive with so much energy because so much was going on. I really enjoyed myself and did not want the day to end. And I am so happy we did all the things we did as a class. Reuniting was what we were there for but it was so heartwarming to reconnect.”

“Having our 50th Reunion during Homecoming turned out to be a great time for us,” Pat Baker (’66) said. “Meeting the students and having the opportunity to interact with them was fun and informative. I wish I could relive that day again. It was so much fun!”

In honor of this combined event, we’ve added new activities and events that will make the weekend of Oct. 14 one to remember! We hope you’ll join us as we relive the past while embracing the new.
