Dorrance “Dodo” Hill Hamilton, a fundamental supporter of Cabrini, passed away on April 18, 2017.
Her grandfather, John T. Dorrance, who invented the formula for condensed soup and served as president of the Campbell Soup Company, lived in the Woodcrest Estate before it became Cabrini College.
The Hamilton family name can be found throughout the campus, but most notably on the Hamilton Family Communication Wing, dedicated in 2000 in Founder’s Hall, and the lobby of the Antoinette Iadarola Center for Science, Education and Technology.
Hamilton’s daughter, Margaret Hamilton Duprey, is a 1973 alumna, and received an honorary degree from Cabrini in 2008. She is also a Trustee Emerita. Hamilton also has two sons, Peter ('96) and Matthew.
Hamilton was known for her philanthropic endeavors, as well as her restoration of gardens and houses. She and her husband established the Hamilton Family Foundation in 1992. It provides funding for literacy-based educational projects in underserved schools in Philadelphia; Camden, NJ; and Chester, PA.
She served on many boards, including the Women's Board at Jefferson Hospital, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, University of the Arts, SVF Foundation, The Hamilton Family Foundation, and The Newport Restoration Foundation, and was the first woman on the Board of Jefferson Hospital.
