Cabrini Awarded $27.2K in PA’s First-Ever ‘It’s On Us PA’ Grant

Posted on 1/10/2017 3:51:00 PM

RADNOR, Pa. (Jan. 10, 2017)—Cabrini University has been awarded $27,200 by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to expand sexual violence education and resources.

The University was one of 36 Pennsylvania colleges to receive the grant.

“We are grateful to be awarded the grant from the PA Department of Education,” said Susan Rohanna, Director of Human Resources and Title IX Coordinator, who will serve as project director for the grant. “The University continues to look for ways to enhance its ongoing commitment to sexual violence education—these funds will help to enrich our existing resources and provide additional opportunities to develop new modalities for outreach.”

The “It’s on Us PA” grant will be used to enhance the training and resources available around sexual assault awareness and prevention including an anonymous reporting functionality as well as increased digital resources and educational videos.

Dedicated to providing its community with resources and education on the issues of sexual violence and dating/domestic abuse, the University hosts an annual symposium that features leading advocates to discuss prevention, services, and education. Through this work, Cabrini also has received funding from the Department of Justice, which allowed the University to secure a full-time coordinator for the initiative and increase the University’s bystander training.

“During our annual symposium in 2016, Cabrini focused on what it means to be an engaged bystander and encouraged attendees to sign the ‘It’s On Us’ pledge to stop sexual assault,” said George Stroud, EdD, Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President of Student Life. “Through increased awareness and education, members of our community can join others across the nation to be part of the solution to end sexual violence.”

In 2016, Pennsylvania became the first state to begin a regional “It’s On Us PA” campaign after the 2014 national campaign launched by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Since its launch, the “It’s On Us PA” campaign has generated more than 1,000 signatures.
