Rademacher Selected for National Seminar on Interfaith Teaching

Posted on 6/11/2015 7:35:00 AM

RADNOR, Pa. (June 11, 2015)—Nicholas Rademacher, Ph.D., associate professor of religious studies at Cabrini College, is one of only 25 professors in the nation selected to participate in a faculty seminar on teaching interfaith understanding. The seminar is offered by the Council for Independent Colleges (CIC) and Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), with support from the Henry Luce Foundation.

The five-day seminar will take place June 21–25, 2015, at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Led by two prominent scholars—Catherine Cornille, chair and professor of the department of theology at Boston College, and Noah Silverman, director of faculty partnerships at IFYC—the seminar aims to broaden faculty members’ knowledge and strengthen their teaching of interfaith understanding, with the development of new courses and resources. Stephen Prothero, professor of religion at Boston University, will be a special guest speaker.

“Strengthening the teaching of interfaith understanding at colleges and universities is a high priority at a time when college enrollment—and American society—is becoming more diverse. Strengthening participation in American life with greater understanding of the distinctive contributions of different faiths is a key to America’s future success,” said CIC President Richard Ekman. “The number of institutions that nominated faculty members to participate in the interfaith understanding seminar is most impressive.”

Since 2007, interfaith dialogue has been central to Rademacher’s teaching and scholarship at Cabrini. In addition to his religious studies courses, Rademacher serves as coordinator of the social justice minor, which is a program designed to help students explore themes and practices of social justice from an interdisciplinary and interfaith perspective.

Rademacher earned master’s and doctorate degrees in religion and culture from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
