Cabrini Sets Groundbreaking for Athletics and Recreation Expansion

Posted on 7/16/2015 4:01:00 PM

RADNOR, Pa. (July 16, 2015)—Cabrini College will begin construction on a new Athletic and Recreation Pavilion at a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m., to be held at the Dixon Center at Cabrini College, 610 King of Prussia Rd., Radnor, Pa.

Following the ceremony, all are welcome to attend a Mass of the Holy Spirit at 11 a.m., Bruckmann Memorial Chapel of St. Joseph, and a Cabrini College Community Picnic at noon on the Cabrini Commons.

For more information on attending the groundbreaking ceremony, contact Joan Kleckner atjoan.d.kleckner@cabrini.edu or 610-902-8201.

The two-story Pavilion will serve Cabrini’s increasing student population, faculty, staff and community members.

“All Cabrini students will benefit from both the state-of-the art fitness center and the College’s ability to meet the increasing demand that students have demonstrated for diverse recreation and wellness programming,” said Christine Lysionek, vice president of Student Life at Cabrini College.

“It also will provide a welcoming space where students can gather, socialize and experience an increased sense of community and connection.”

As an expansion of the Dixon Center—the College’s current athletic facility—the Pavilion will include a new fitness facility, studios for exercise and event space, dedicated locker rooms for intercollegiate teams, weight and strength training spaces, equipment storage, and a lobby with a café and social space.

“Since the opening of the Dixon Center, student visits have nearly tripled, student-athletes on campus more than doubled and athletic programs have grown significantly,” said Brad Koch, director of athletics and recreation.

“The Athletic and Recreation Pavilion addition is a clear indicator of Cabrini’s commitment to providing a comprehensive college experience for our growing student population.”

The expansion will allow Cabrini to meet the growing needs of prospective and current students, and provide the opportunity to host larger events and additional athletic teams.

Scheduled completion for the Cabrini Athletic and Recreation Pavilion is Fall 2016.
