Cabrini, CRS Partnership Turns 10

Posted on 4/8/2015 8:01:00 AM

RADNOR, Pa. (April 8, 2015)—On April 14, Cabrini College will celebrate its decade-long partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the official international relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic community.

During a signing event, members of CRS and the Cabrini community will discuss the accomplishments of the partnership thus far and opportunities for the future.

Cabrini was the first institution of higher education in the U.S. to sign a memorandum of understanding with CRS in April 2005. Since then, the partnership has supported and furthered the College’s mission and Justice Matters curriculum in the following ways:

Cabrini assists CRS with its national global curriculum.
First proposed by Cabrini, the Global Solidarity Network blended-learning global curriculum has been used by thousands of students on scores of campuses.

Cabrini serves as a model for student advocacy and D.C. lobbying.
Nearly 200 students have been trained to lobby in Congress to support CRS advocacy efforts and have made 500 lobby visits.

The Cabrini CRS Ambassador program develops national programming.
Cabrini, along with Villanova University, is a founding chapter of the national CRS Student Ambassador program.

Cabrini ensures fair trade products are available on campus.
Beginning in 2004, the Partnership developed a relationship with Sodexo, which led to signing an agreement in 2006.

Cabrini students intern with CRS.
Over the past decade, students have participated in U.S. and international internships with CRS.

Cabrini provides video productions for CRS initiatives.
CRS regularly commissions Cabrini for video to support programming around the country.

Cabrini hosts CRS staff on sabbatical.
Beginning in 2012-13, Cabrini has offered sabbaticals to host CRS overseas staff on our campus.

Students from the Engagements for the Common Good course Our Interdependent World will conclude the event with their interactive #RefugeesSeekingSafety simulation.
