RADNOR, Pa. (Nov. 13, 2014) – Six Cabrini College students were honored with awards for their commitment to leadership and service during the College’s Cabrini Day on Nov. 11, celebrating the College’s heritage and mission.

The Mastronardi Award for Service and Leadership was presented to Mariel Delacruz ’16, Ashley Douglas ’15, Mackenzie Harris ’16 and Rebecca Wagenbauer ’16 for their outstanding contributions to leadership in service to the community.

The Nerney Leadership in Community Service was presented to sophomores Miranda Budd ’17 and Michael Burrell ’17 for exhibiting active and sustained leadership in service and outreach programs prior to the end of their first year at Cabrini.

Mastronardi Award recepients:

Last summer, Delacruz was one of two Cabrini students to participate in World Youth Day in Mexico.

She is head of communications for Cabrini’s Catholic Relief Services Student Ambassador program and a classroom coach for the Engagements with the Common Good course, “Our Independent World.”

She has participated in numerous service trips with Campus Ministry, and is co-founder and president of Clean Cabrini, a student group which aims for "conflict-free" technology on campus.

Wagenbauer, a business major with a minor in Spanish, has been named to the Dean’s List every semester at Cabrini. While at the College, she has worked with the Norristown Area School District to improve the literacy skills of Latino students and has worked with the homeless.

This month, she will travel to New York with Susan Pierson, Ph.D., to present a paper on their work with the Norristown Area School District.

The Mastronardi Award is an endowed scholarship established by Margaret Mastronardi ’61, a member of the College’s first graduating class, and her sister, Ruth Mastronardi Baldovin ’67. Since 1982, the Mastronardi Foundation has underwritten scholarships for more than 100 students at Cabrini.
