RADNOR, Pa. (April 22, 2013) — Cabrini College has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the sixth time.
It is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service learning, and civic engagement.
Cabrini received this honor on the heels of the 10th anniversary of the College’s Wolfington Center, a centralized office on campus that helps to integrate students’ intellectual and spiritual development with commitments to social justice.

The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll selects colleges and universities based on the scope and innovation of service projects, the extent to which service learning permeates the curriculum, the school’s commitment to long-term campus-community partnerships, and the measurable community outcomes of the service.
This year, Cabrini was recognized for several programs benefiting the local community, including the College’s partner city of Norristown, Pa.:

Students mentored Latino students in the Norristown Area School District to encourage them to graduate and find career or college opportunities

Faculty, staff, and students participated in the Helping Hands Across America food drive, collecting more than 1,550 pounds of food for the Catholic Social Services Food Pantry in Norristown

Students worked with Valley Creek Restoration Partnership, engaging in community-based research to enhance the local natural environment.
Crabby Creek lost its large population of brook trout most likely due to a hurricane, so students helped reintroduce the trout to the creek. Students also planted native trees and shrubs along the banks of the creek, among other projects.
“Cabrini College has received this recognition six of the seven years it has been offered,” said Marie Angelella George, Ph.D., president of Cabrini College. “It is clear that the Cabrini community takes to heart the College’s mission, which includes a commitment to social justice.”
The College estimates that, each year, Cabrini students log more than 12,000 hours of service to the local and global communities.
The Corporation for National and Community Service oversees the Honor Roll in collaboration with the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Campus Compact and the American Council on Education.
