Latin American Studies Minor
A Latin American Studies minor is an excellent preparation for work in a number of fields in which a Latin American perspective as well as a global cultural competency are valued such as teaching, criminal justice, the medical field, human resources, international business, social work, etc.
Requirements for the Minor in Latin American Studies
(all courses 3 credits unless noted)
Required Courses:
- LAS/SPA 303 - Survey of Spanish and Latin American Cultures through Film
- LAS/SPA 315 - Identity Politics in Latin American
- LAS/SPA 220 - Latinos in the US
Elective Courses:
- SPA 320 - Introduction to Cultural Materials from the Spanish-speaking World
- SPA 321 - Latin American Short Story
- SPA 322- Political and Social Transitions in the Spanish-Speaking World through Theatre
- RELS/LAS 212 - Religion, Revolution, and Rebellion in Latin American
- ENG - Essential Authors in Latin America and the Diaspora
- HIS 251 - Survey of Latin American History from Colonization to 1800
- HIS 252 - Survey of Latin American History from 1800 to Present
- SPA/LAS 460 - Mentoring Latino Students in the Norristown Area School District (3 semesters, one credit per semester)
- ECG 200/300 - Working for Justice in Guatemala (only as an additional class after having fulfilled the ECG requirement)
