What to do in Your Spare Time Over Break

Posted on 12/11/2020 4:50:26 PM by Amber Berkheimer

For most of us, classes and finals are over until the Spring semester. This semester was definitely one for the books, but, needless to say, the stress is now gone - at least for a month. While you’re home for the rest of December and the majority of January, you might be thinking, what’s there to do in this area over Christmas break, while staying socially distant? There are so many fun things to do safely before school starts back up in January! Here is a list of some things to do to keep you occupied until we are back on campus:

Do Some Online Holiday Shopping: The holidays have looked pretty different this year, but one way to stay safe during the pandemic while making sure you can buy your family exactly what they want for the holidays, is doing your shopping online. This was my first year shopping for all of my Christmas presents online, and I’ve found it to be so much easier than going to the store. You can search for exactly what you’re looking for, and even get items shipped to extended family members homes’, if you’re having a socially distant Christmas this year!

Visit Holiday Light Shows/Displays: There are so many light shows to choose from in Pennsylvania, as well as surrounding states Hershey Sweet Lights at Hershey Park is always great to visit in the winter! Tickets are $39.95 per car, and it is definitely worth it. This display offers 2 miles of nearly 600 animated displays and over 2 million lights! Another must-see show is at Shady Brook Farm. Located in Yardley, Pa, this light display features over 3 million lights for only $35 per car when you make a reservation! One final destination includes the home of the Griswold’s of New Jersey. This house is located just over the bridge in Mickleton, Nj. It features a house designed and decorated almost exactly the same as the house from “Christmas Vacation”. When visiting this location, be sure to bring an unwrapped toy, as the family collects for Toys For Tots.

Visit Philadelphia: Of course, how could I make a list of things to do in the winter without including visiting Philadelphia. In the city, there are so many things to do and experience in the winter. From going ice skating at the Blue Cross River Rink to going shopping in Center City, to seeing the Holiday light display in Peddler’s Village, the options are almost endless. This is a great place to visit to keep yourself occupied during the winter months!

The Spring semester will be here before we know it, and it’s important to do things to alleviate your stress and to make some memories in the meantime! This is not an extensive list, and there are so many more activities out there to do with family and friends!
