Generally, you see a lot of “top tips for move-in day” posts on a college blog like this. However, today we are going to take a look at some of the top tips for moving out!
Make a check-list
Start making yourself a checklist weeks before move out day even arrives. Whether you chose to do this the old fashioned way on a piece of paper or on your phone, organize everything that needs to be done. You don’t want to realize you forgot something the second you arrive home for the summer.
Don’t wait until the last day to start packing
This should come without saying, but really, don’t wait until the last day to start packing. Over the course of the year, things just start stacking up on each other and then you get to the end of the year and realize that you have so much more stuff than you originally brought with you. So word to the wise, don’t wait until the last day to pack, it will only make finals time even more frustrating. If you have the opportunity, take some things home during spring or Easter break to make the move easier.
Make sure to balance finals week
This can be a tough one, especially considering everyone’s finals schedule can be different. But make sure that you are balancing everything that must be done at the end of the year the proper way. Finals alone can be a stressful time, so don’t keep adding things onto that. Balance your packing schedule, social life, and finals work to a reasonable amount each day.
Thank your professors
Whether you do this over e-mail or in-person at your final class, always make sure to thank your professor. At the end of the day, you never know who could possibly help you with getting a job one day. Professors can act as references or even close friends when it comes to helping you in the future. Just showing a simple sign of gratitude can go a long way in keeping a good connection with all of your professors throughout your college career.
Everyone’s situation can be completely different when it comes to move out day. You will realize that some people can be done as early as Monday during finals week when you are stuck on campus until Friday. But that is just the nature of the finals schedule and the classes you are taking. So make sure to check the finals schedule and know when it’s time to move out.
Have a great summer Cavs!
