If you’re anything like me, you can't stand sweating in the sweltering hot summer heat and equally despise the frigid, dry winter months. What’s unique about the northeastern region of the U.S., where you can find Cabrini, is that you get a taste of everything. What this can mean for the college students here is that the weather can change in the blink of an eye and you need to be ready to go from shorts to sweaters real quick. When you pack to go away for college the first time make sure you cover all four seasons. Yea, this is nothing new. However there are ways you can learn to better prepare for those tricky temperatures.
So, you know, wear sleeveless stuff in the summer with sandals or sneaks. Layers on layers on layers in the winter and maybe even a sweet ski cap. But the fall has been tricking man for the past 6 million years, or however long we’ve been on Earth. The key is to master the hybrid outfit, or how I like to call it, smart layers.
At first this is going to seem pointless but just wait until you master this artistry and become the envy of all your meteorologically-challenged friends. Think Plan A and Plan B. In those cold fall mornings you’re going to want minimal skin exposure, so depending on the temp, go with long pants and a jacket/sweater. You have to think of that 8am walk to class or breakfast. But here’s where some students overreact and sometimes neglect to plan for the 3pm sun. Or even forget Dr. What’s-his-face likes his classroom so hot you could probably toast a pop tart. This is where plan B comes in, right under your longer garments. ALWAYS wear a T-shirt under the warm stuff. Even when it's 20 below, 'cause these heat flashes happen. Never forget the T or even a tank.
Now, if you wanna be hardcore like myself, you can even get a pair of those pants that unzip at the knee that your mom used to buy you in third grade. Just kidding, but sometimes wearing some sweatpants with shorts underneath is not a bad idea, especially if you plan on hitting the gym later or have an afternoon practice.
Essentially, college is gonna show you one thing, and that’s that you need to expect and plan for anything. So master the smart layers. Don’t be the in-class sweater sweater. Remember your plan B. Hope this helps!
