Useful Phone Apps for College Students

Posted on 8/8/2019 11:40:39 AM by Abigail Scardelletti

Going to college has a lot of requirements; from essentials like bedding and a refrigerator to needs like food and the perfect outfit for each class, it can get overwhelming and confusing. Let me give you some tips on what to have that you might not think about immediately: having the right apps on your phone.

The first app you need is Bite. It shows you the menu for the day in Cav’s Corner so you can plan your meals ahead of time and not waste a "meal swipe" for food you may not want. Bite will list all the meals options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. It also informs you of the calorie count in each product, so if you want to maintain a healthy weight, you have the proper information.

Keeping with food, you will also want to have a few food delivery apps on your phone for when Cabrini’s food options are closed or when you have a specific craving. Good ones to have are Delivery Dudes, Grubhub, and DoorDash. All three cover the Wayne and Radnor area and are prompt with their deliveries. Grubhub and DoorDash even deliver from Wawa!

Venmo and CashApp are also useful apps to have, as you may not always have cash. You and your friends will be on the go quite often and it is a great way to go on spontaneous adventures and not worry about who’s paying. They are also useful if a club on campus is fundraising for a great cause and you want to donate to it. Venmo the organizers and skip the cash!

Having MyFitnessPal, Fitbit, or a Garman will help you keep a healthy lifestyle. LFConnect is also great because the app can connect via Bluetooth to some of the cardio equipment in our Dixon Center!  These apps can help you track your activity and meals to help make sure you do not gain the "Freshman 15."

Quizlet is also a must as it will help you study for exams. Having it on your phone can help as you can study even if you are away from your computer. If you are commuting to and from school, and not driving, you can use the time to get some extra practice in.

Amazon and Chegg are also apps that will be helpful. Using these apps, you can purchase and rent books, and it will help with other college purchases that may come up throughout the year. If your phone charger breaks, you ran out of shampoo, or you need another decoration for your room, Amazon definitely has what you need!

My last suggestion is not a must-have but could be beneficial when it comes to feeling safe coming to or around campus. It is called Circle of 6. This app allows you to easily send a text message to six people of your choosing, to let them know you got to your destination safely or in case of emergency.
