Film Review " A Quiet Place"

Posted on 4/26/2018 8:57:29 AM by Rachael Tygh

SPOILER ALERT for "A Quiet Place" movie!

Many do not know this about me, but I am a huge film buff. I love all films, but horror has always been my favorite. On opening weekend, I went to the movie tavern to see “ A Quiet Place.” The previews grabbed my attention a few times for this film so I decided to see it. I would describe the film as horror, thriller, and science fiction all in one. Stop reading if you do not want any spoilers! Right off the bat, if you are looking for a dialogue-filled film, this is not for you. The majority of the film was silent, so silent that I was afraid my stomach grumbling was going to be heard through the entire theatre.

The film kept me on the edge of my seat at all times. I genuinely was interested and intrigued during each and every scene. I am picky when it comes to movies, but I think this was a unique and fun movie for everyone to see at some point. The film was also on the shorter side, which was the perfect amount of time for a film that has next to no talking. On the other hand, do not let the “quiet” aspect of the film deter you. I was unsure if I could sit through a film with minimal dialogue. The lack of script was almost refreshing. Since there was minimal speaking, the music and action-filled scenes and emotional facial expressions created a new type of film experience. You had to actually pay attention to sounds and expressions from the actors to understand the story. It was beautiful and interesting to say the least. It was definitely a new form of storytelling that I would like to see more directors and writers attempt.

(SPOILER) If you are a John Krasinski fan, bring tissues.

In the end, the film left me wanting a sequel. It was definitely an ending that will allow the film industry to make a second film in my opinion, but will they? With how well this film did in the box office, I would not be surprised to see a sequel. At the same time, the film ended in a way for you to assume your own ending. This could go either way, but I am excited to see what the future will hold for this film.

As I was writing this I searched Google for “A Quiet Place 2” just for fun. It is said by the people of Paramount, the producers, that a second film is in the works. This was announced the same day I am writing this blog, pretty cool! If you saw the film or are going to, let me know in the comments. I would love to hear what your thoughts and opinions are!

Lastly, here is a link to check out all the buzz around making a second film!
