My Mentor at Cabrini

Posted on 12/11/2022 11:24:13 PM by Piper Byrne

Life as a college student can often get overwhelming. There are so many different things happening at once and it becomes very easy to get lost in all the chaos. One of the best things about Cabrini is how easy it is to find someone who really cares about your academic and personal journey as a student. They want to keep you on track and help you walk that extra mile. They become a mentor and someone you look up to. This semester, I was lucky enough to intern in the Cabrini marketing department with Emily Rowan, who has taught me so much and has given me tons of advice that I will take with me when I leave Cabrini. In this blog, you can read about my internship experience with Emily, how amazing she is, and why I admire her.

The first time I ever really interacted with Emily was at the Fall 2021 open house. The ambassadors had to be there so early in the morning, I didn’t even have time to make myself a cup of coffee. Naturally, I was complaining about it to my friends. Emily overheard me and took me upstairs to her office to make me a cup. We had a fun conversation, and from that moment, I knew we were going to get along great. Never would I have ever imagined that a year later, I would be interning with Emily in Cabrini Marketing. I was so excited to get started. On my first day, Emily threw me in right away. She taught me how to use the social media platforms, make edits to the Cabrini website, and even how to use a camera properly, in such a short amount of time. It meant so much to me to know that she trusted me with so many tasks so fast. My experience as a Cabrini Marketing intern has helped me develop skills and taught me marketing techniques that will be so beneficial to my life outside of college.

While spending time in the office with Emily, she’s become more to me than just the person I work for. She’s someone I look up to. One of the things I admire most about her, is how dedicated she is to her work. It’s inspiring. Emily loves Cabrini and it pours out through everything that she does. Every picture she takes and posts to the flickr, all the videos she edits, and everything else she creates are done with specificity and care. I will consider myself so lucky if I find a job that I love and care about as much as Emily cares about hers. Something else I noticed about Emily after spending so much time with her, is how kind she is to people and how she goes out of her way to make people smile. Any time I’ve gone to any event with Emily this semester, she’s always talking to someone and smiling. She goes to as many Cabrini events as she possibly can to make sure to support the community (and take amazing pictures)! I could go on and on about all the great things I hear about her around school. With every nice thing said, I feel even luckier to know her.

I could talk about what an amazing person Emily is for hours. Seriously, ask my friends! I’m always talking about work and all the fun we have up in the Mansion. I’m really going to miss it. My internship was definitely one of the highlights of my college career. Thank you, Emily, for making it so special. Thank you for filling me with confidence on the days I lacked it. Thank you for being such a great mentor. Thanks for talking about cats and Shein, and for the hot pink tree. Most importantly, thank you for making Cabrini such a special place. It wouldn’t be the same without you.
