Working Out Virtually With Cabrini Staff

Posted on 9/19/2020 1:43:19 PM by Kayla Hunt

People have various components of their self-care routine. A staple in mine includes hot oil and deep conditioner treatments to my hair every week. One that I’m trying to reincorporate into my flow is exercising several times a week. In the midst of quarantine, I was inspired to start a healthy routine, daily yoga. I kept up with it for nearly two months. I stopped, and before I knew it, months passed, and my body returned to its state pre-yoga: achy, stiff, slouchy, and slow.

A recent email from the Cabrini Recreation Center prompted me to get back into the habit of taking care of my body. I decided to log on to the 8am stretching session with Andie on a Monday morning. I had been enrolled in the pilates course last year or so with Linda and fell in love with it. I was really eager to get back into the swing of things. On the morning of the stretching session, I got settled into the zoom call and was a little surprised at what I saw. My workout buds were older women, so I was under the impression that the session would be a piece of cake.

What I can tell you about my experience is this: Do not under any circumstances be ageist and make assumptions. I only lasted 30 minutes of the session, meanwhile, the other women were breezing by the entire hour session. A second thing I can say is this: take care of your body! Trust me. No one else will. It’s yours and your responsibility. Speaking from experience, your body is happier when you take care of it.
