Over the last two years, I have discovered that one of my favorite things to do in my free time is to volunteer, and I have always enjoyed the outcomes of serving others from my heart. I have volunteered for a variety of different organizations and helped at different missions like Cabrini Immigrant services. It has always been fun each time I help with the packaging of food and distributing the food to the clients the following day. Like the way David says in Psalm 34:8, to taste and see the goodness of the Lord, there is always goodness of serving others in the Lord too. I have indeed tasted this goodness, loved it, and I would encourage others to give it a go. And with that been said, here are my four reasons which keep the spirit of helping others in me moving. I hope that you will find it meaningful, reasonable, and helpful to do the same.
1. Volunteering is an opportunity of gaining experience and skills.
By volunteering, I have been carrying out a job even though I am not being paid so I can gain valuable experience and skills which are likely to be useful in the future. For example, many volunteering roles I have played will help me to gain experience in working as a team.
2. It is an opportunity of meeting with new people and getting outside of a comfort zone.
One of the best things about volunteering is meeting with other volunteers! I have always enjoyed their company as we work along together and have found that they are likely to be very interesting and inspiring people and might just turn out to be great friends too.
3. It always paves a way of gaining confidence in oneself.
From the interaction and conversation I have with some of the volunteers, I have come to realize that most of them have found that volunteering has helped them to feel more confident in all sorts of ways. For example, Sometimes, I tend to be quite a shy person, especially in a new environment. My volunteering experience has helped me to gain confidence in talking to strangers and even in front of a crowd!
4. It is Fun and delights the souls of many
I have always felt good to know that I am doing something for a good cause, and this feeling has brought joy and enthusiasm in all that I do, making my volunteering activities fun and interesting doing.
These are just a few of the many reasons why I suggest that you look for volunteering opportunities in your local town or city. Our Wolfington Center can also help you find ways to help local communities! There are many different things that you can get involved with and remember that any type of volunteering is good volunteering. If you like, you can start with something small and who knows what it will lead to! The most important thing to remember is that as well as helping others, you can get a great deal out of it too!
