Good Ways to Spend Your Spring Break

Posted on 2/19/2019 1:15:05 PM by Sophia Goussetis

For most students, Spring Break means slacking off, sleeping, and being unproductive, but that doesn't have to be the case. With more than a week off of school, I encourage students to make the most of their Spring Break and any free weekends with these proactive and motivating ideas.

With the seasons changing and upcoming transitions, this week is the perfect time to clean your room and/or dorm room. It is always beneficial to take some time to clean out all of your unwanted items and start fresh by donating what you can to a local thrift store and throwing the rest out. With a clean and organized environment, you will be able to take on any and all of your responsibilities.

With summer right around the corner, you’ll want to use your break to plan out your summer schedule along with looking for a job to fill up any downtime. Along with planning out the summer, there is no harm in researching opportunities for the next school year. Scholarships and Internships are always a great way to get involved, use your free time over the break in finding the best one for you.

Instead of spending days on end binge-watching your favorite Netflix shows, put your computer to good use and spend some time revamping your resume and/or cover letter. This is an easy thing to do in your free time that you will thank yourself later for. Just an hour of your time now will save you any last minute stress in the future.

Aside from improving yourself academically, there are always great ways to better yourself over break and on any free weekends you may have. Now that you know what kind of spending you will be doing at school, make sure you are saving about as much as you are spending and create a budget for yourself.

If you have extra free time, get a group of friends together and seek out some volunteering opportunities that interest you. Volunteering will benefit you, the cause you are helping, and will look great on your newly updated resume.

Spring Break is your time off of the stresses of school. Relax, exercise, spend time with family and friends, and make the most of your time at home. With the end of the semester quickly approaching, take time to relax before the midpoint and finals. Just don't spend too much time relaxing! I wish my fellow students safe travels as you enjoy your well deserved time off.
