Five Ways to Enhance Your Ramen

Posted on 2/15/2019 4:06:47 PM by Julia Smith

Ramen noodles are a staple in any college student's pantry. Not only are they delicious, but they're easy to make and super cheap. However, eating regular Ramen all of the time can get boring and a bit unhealthy. So,  here are a few simple recipes to spice up your Ramen noodles!

1. Ramen n' Cheese

Ingredients:

1) half a package of cheddar cheese

2) 1/2 a cup of milk

3) 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch

4) 1 package of Ramen noodles

Ramen and Mac n' Cheese, what else could be better? For this recipe, all you have to do is melt together a half a package of shredded cheddar cheese with 1/2 cup of milk. Then, add in 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch to make the mixture thick. Separately boil your ramen noodles and set the seasoning aside. After the noodles are finished, stir in the cheese mixture and enjoy!

2. Veggie

Ingredients:

1) Your favorite veggies

2) 1 package of Ramen noodles

3) Soy sauce, Siracha, or your favorite sauce (optional)

Nothing can get simpler than this recipe. If you are someone who wants to make Ramen healthier or just loves veggies, then all you have to do is gather some of your favorite vegetables and add them into your noodles after they're done cooking. You can either pick up some fresh produce at the store or even grab some from the cafeteria's salad bar if you don't want to spend money. Before adding the veggies, you can decide whether you want to cook them a little bit or just add them raw. For some extra flavor, try adding some soy sauce or Siracha!

3. Makeshift Pad-Thai

Ingredients

1) 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter

2) 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce

3) 2 teaspoons of fish sauce

4) pinch of salt

Although this recipe sounds weird, it's actually a very common noodle dish. All you have to do is cook the ramen normally, then add in the peanut butter, soy sauce, fish sauce, a little bit of salt, and stir! Once you're done, you can add in your choice of vegetables, spices, or sauces.

4. Coconut Milk Ramen

Ingredients

1) coconut milk

2) 1 package of ramen

I know, I know this may sound gross, but coconut milk will actually add a delicious flavor to your ramen. Not only will it create a creamier texture, but it will also make your ramen taste a bit sweeter. To do this, open your cup noodles about half of the way. Fill the cup a third of the way with coconut milk and the rest of it with boiling water. Add the seasonings and cover it for a few minutes. Once it's done, you will have a deliciously creamier version of regular cup noodles!

5. Add a Paste

Whether it's miso paste, garlic paste, tomato paste, etc., adding this extra step into your ramen will enhance the flavor immensely. You can also add different sauces, such as soy sauce, Siracha, or even sweet and sour sauce for an extra kick! There are no specific steps to follow in this recipe so you can make your ramen your own!
