Essay Writing Tips

Posted on 2/16/2018 11:42:47 PM by Julia Cattani

Writing a good essay is key to succeeding in college. While essays are important, it may be hard to manage when there are multiple assigned at the same time. To effectively write multiple essays regarding different topics requires a little bit of expertise, but I’ll give you my tips to accomplish just that.

1.  Stay Organized

It is important to do your research for each assignment you are given, and it is of even more importance to organize your work. Keeping a folder, either on your laptop or physically in your backpack, of each assignment will make sure that you cover all of your bases when starting your assignments.

2.  Be Thorough

When you are doing research, you may come across words that you do not know the definitions of, and it is imperative to learn what they mean so that you can fully understand the research.

3.  Format

When writing a paper, I never double space until I feel that I have written as much content as I possibly could. This eliminates my needing to check the page length every five minutes to see if I’ve met it yet. After I’ve exhausted the topics, I then double space and edit. This typically puts me over the page length required for essays, and ensures that the essay is full of detail.

4.  Editing

I know it can be monotonous, but editing is SO important. Even if you think that you’ve completed the essay properly, there will always be a small typo, a comma, or an apostrophe out of place. If you’re exhausted from reading your work, take a break, get a snack, and revisit it in an hour. You will be grateful when you do.

5.  Plan Ahead

Always start your essays as soon as you get the assignment, even if it is just collecting your research. This way, you will know how much time that your assignment will require ahead of time, and you can properly spread out the work load until the due date.

Writing a paper that is collegiate and complete is a huge aspect of college life at Cabrini University. It is expected that you can successfully juggle multiple assignments, and as long as you plan ahead and look at your work, you will succeed.
