Faculty Feature - Tangi James-Boone

Posted on 8/10/2017 1:24:34 PM

Tangi James-Boone, Instructor of Marketing, is approaching her fourth semester teaching at Cabrini. She is currently working on expanding the Professional Development curriculum within the Business Department and also working with Vonya Womack, Instructor of Business Administration, to enhance the Marketing program at Cabrini.

Do you have a favorite subject matter—or lesson—that you teach?
In general, I love the idea of teaching because I love the idea of learning. I do not have a favorite subject; I enjoy the process of creating a challenging and engaging environment for the learner to think and explore ideas.

What is your go-to advice for Cabrini students?
Work hard and play hard, in that order! Just do the work and it will pay off.

Do you have any hidden talents or interests? If so, what are they?
I am really good at organizing "stuff" or finding ways to make things more efficient or effective. That even includes folding clothes; it relaxes me. I guess you can say a hidden talent or interest is I LOVE structure and order.

What is your favorite item in your office and why?
Artwork. Each piece has meaning and symbolism. My office has motivational reminders to begin again, embrace the day, stand for justice, love well, listen with your whole heart, and practice compassion, just to name a few. One of my favorites is my "Today is a New Day" faux wood plank motivation picture. These messages remind me or encourage me every time I walk into my office and begin to sit at my desk.

What is your favorite quote and why?
I do not have ONE favorite quote. I believe words are powerful in setting your intentions, expectations, and belief systems. So, I collect quotes for just what they invoke within me. However, I do love Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him.

It reminds me regardless of what is happening, my path is directed.
