Finishing fall 2020 strong and a reminder re: Winterim and spring 2021

Posted on 12/11/2020 3:20:21 PM

Dear Cabrini community,

As we come upon the end of the fall semester—a semester unlike any other—I want to first thank you all for your flexibility, your fortitude, and your focus. Thanks to your continued adherence to the COVID-19 mitigation measures and protocols in place, we are successfully bringing the fall 2020 semester to a close, moving into the final exam period (being conducted virtually) early next week and, from there, Winterim and the Winter Break.

I encourage everyone—those students staying in the residence halls until they close December 17 for the break and those students and employees who are on-campus only periodically or who are fully remote—to stay vigilant in your mitigation efforts. Avoid groups and gatherings, maintain six feet of distance from others, and wear a mask. Your efforts to protect yourselves and others now protect all those whom you might encounter two weeks from now. Let’s finish the semester strong and keep each other healthy and well.

As a reminder, the Winterim session begins December 21 and most courses are being offered as online-only/remote instruction. The schedule for Winterim is unchanged and accurate as posted on the Academic Calendar, and specific course modalities can be viewed when registering.

Cabrini’s spring 2021 semester (15-week term or two eight-week terms) will begin nearly a full week later than originally scheduled. The schedule has been modified, and the updated schedule is accurately reflected on the Academic Calendar. Course instruction will begin on Monday, January 25 (15-week term and Spring I term). Classes will be held during the originally scheduled Spring Break (February 27 through March 7). The Easter Holiday Break (March 31 through April 5) will be observed as originally scheduled. The last day of classes for the 15-week term will be Friday, May 7, and finals are scheduled for May 10 through May 14; the last day of classes for the Spring I term will be Friday, March 19.

At this time, Cabrini expects to again employ a mix of in-person, hybrid, hyflex, and remote instructional formats and with strict adherence to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the spring 2021 semester, but Cabrini is prepared to start the semester by conducting all courses in a remote-only format, should mitigation measures necessitate doing so. We will continue to monitor changes to best practices and the guidance that comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Governor Wolf and will provide important updates as necessary.

We expect residence halls will open at noon on Sunday, January 24, for students returning to their residence hall rooms.

The Cabrini offices will remain open during the originally scheduled Spring Holiday (March 1). The Holiday Schedule has been updated to reflect this change.

Again, I thank you for your continued efforts to maintain the health and wellness of our Cabrini community, and I wish you a successful close to the semester and a happy and healthy holiday season.

In the Cavalier spirit,

Donald B. Taylor, PhD
Cabrini President
