An announcement regarding Winterim and the spring 2021 semester

Posted on 10/1/2020 5:08:10 PM

Dear Cabrini community,

I want to first thank you for all of your efforts in adhering to protocols and best practice mitigation measures for COVID-19 as we move through the fall 2020 semester.

We are currently in our fifth week of instruction, and we are able to continue offering a high-quality Cabrinian experience and education—in multiple modalities to meet the various needs of all our students—because of your strict adherence to the mitigation measures put in place to protect you, our Cabrini community, and the community at large. I know it isn’t always easy, but it is necessary, and your efforts are appreciated. I trust these efforts will continue throughout the fall semester and beyond—as long as necessary to protect our health and wellness.

As we move through the end of the fall semester and map out the next semesters, we look to continue what is working for our community and to make adjustments as required by the ever-evolving nature of the situation. With this flexibility in mind, Cabrini’s approach to Winterim 2020-2021 and spring 2021 is outlined broadly below.

  • Winterim 2020-2021 course schedules are unchanged and accurate as posted on the Academic Calendar and will be conducted in current course modality offerings: a mix of in-person, hybrid, hyflex, and remote formats and with intentional guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Cabrini’s spring 2021 semester (15-week term or two eight-week terms) will begin nearly a full week later than originally scheduled, employing the current course modality offerings: a mix of in-person, hybrid, hyflex, and remote formats and with intentional safeguards and mitigation measures that follow the best practices and guidelines from the CDC. All course modalities will continue through the last day of classes and finals, unless mitigation measures necessitate a pivot to an online-only modality.
  • Course instruction will begin on Monday, January 25 (15-week term and Spring I term). Classes will be held during the originally scheduled Spring Break (February 27 through March 7). The Easter Holiday Break (March 31 through April 5) will be observed as originally scheduled. The last day of classes for the 15-week term will be Friday, May 7, and finals are scheduled for May 10 through May 14; the last day of classes for the Spring I term will be Friday, March 19.

The Academic Calendar has been updated to reflect these changes.
  • Offices will remain open during the originally scheduled Spring Holiday (March 1). The Holiday Schedule has been updated to reflect this change.
  • Residence halls, Holy Spirit Library, and dining and other services will remain open through the end of the semester unless mitigation measures necessitate a pivot to an online-only modality.

As our community continues to rise to the challenge of forging a “new normal” in an academic year unlike any other, we remain committed to doing so with the health and wellness of the Cabrini community and the greater public as our top priority. We will continue to adapt and accommodate any changes in mitigation measures and governmental mandates as we continue in our mission to provide an Education of the Heart.

More information on the spring 2021 semester will be communicated as it is available. In the meantime, should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to return@cabrini.edu.

In the Cavalier spirit,
