Nerney Leadership Institute to launch micro-credentialed courses

Posted on 12/7/2020 9:10:27 PM

Cabrini’s revitalized Nerney Leadership Institute (NLI) soon will launch, free to Cabrini faculty and staff and at a 20 percent discount for Cabrini alumni, micro-credential-providing courses to develop competence related to leadership in professional areas of interest.

Courses are developed in partnership with subject matter experts to support professionals and those already in the workplace; a student-focused dashboard and course offerings are also in development and are expected to launch in early 2021.

The first courses that will be availableEmotional Intelligence and Social Emotional Learning; Culturally Responsive Pedagogy; Humanizing Online Learning with Universal Design; and Leadership in HyFlex Courses— focus on leadership initiatives within the Education sector.

“Many professionals feel the need or have the desire to advance their education or broaden or boost their skillsets,” said NLI Co-Director Melissa “Missy” Terlecki, PhD, Psychology Professor and Department Chair. “Particularly following the adverse impact on the economy imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, people are looking to reskill or upskill in order to change or advance their careers. NLI’s course offerings and microcredentials provide everyone with an opportunity to do so without the time investment of a full-on degree program.”

In addition to developing enhanced skills and proficiencies through innovative learning experiences for individuals and organizations, the NLI’s digital badge initiative also provides participants with a digital version of the course credentials—a straightforward and recognizable way for someone to advertise their skills and proficiencies. The digital badges, offered through Credly’s Acclaim platform, can be promoted on social media and in email signatures or digital resumes as a quick indication of a person’s knowledge and qualifications.

“NLI is looking forward to continuing to support the Cabrini community and beyond in each individual’s professional endeavors,” said NLI Co-Director Anne Filippone, Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership. “We are excited about our impending offerings for students, geared to help them develop the leadership skills employers are looking for, and to expanding our course offerings to provide topically relevant insights and professional development.”

Information on how to gain access to the courses will be distributed via email prior to launch.
