Posted on 1/18/2019 11:27:21 AM

RADNOR, Pa. (January 18, 2019)—Cabrini has finalized a partnership with the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization, an organization committed to the educational, professional, and personal development of young women in the Greater Philadelphia region.

At the upcoming Miss Philadelphia and Miss Philadelphia Outstanding Teen competitions, taking place on Saturday, March 23, at 6:30pm at Venice Island Performing Arts Center in Manayunk, two young women will receive full-tuition scholarships to fulfill their educations at Cabrini University.

Miss Philadelphia 2019 (winner of the contest for ages 17 through 25) will receive full tuition to the University for their undergraduate degree (four-year program or completion of an undergraduate degree for those who transfer) or graduate degree; Miss Philadelphia Outstanding Teen 2019 (winner of the contest for ages 13 through 17) will receive full tuition for a four-year undergraduate degree at Cabrini.

The competition consists of a private interview with a panel of judges, in addition to talent, evening gown, and on-stage question portions. This is the first year the contestants will not participate in a swimsuit portion of the competition.

“In the past five years, the Miss Philadelphia Organization has awarded nearly $90,000 in scholarships and Cabrini will now become part of that legacy of providing educational opportunities to young women in our region,” said Michelle Filling-Brown, PhD, Acting Dean for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of English. “I'm proud that Cabrini University will offer full-tuition scholarships to empower two young women this year and that those women value service to the community, education, professional development, and personal excellence, in ways that are aligned with our University mission.”

“We could not be more thrilled to partner with such a prestigious institution,” said Bobbey Biddle, Executive Director of the Miss Philadelphia Organization. “Cabrini University’s commitment to service and leadership aligns beautifully with our own mission and we look forward to empowering the young women of the Philadelphia area together.”

Miss Philadelphia Board Member Alicia Roberts said, “Offering a full academic scholarship to our 2019 Miss Philadelphia and Miss Philadelphia’s Outstanding Teen is a life-changing opportunity. Thanks to Cabrini University’s generosity, we are able to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of scholarships to some of Philadelphia’s most deserving young women.”

In addition to championing causes of their choosing, the winners of Miss Philadelphia 2019 and Miss Philadelphia Outstanding Teen 2019 will partner with Cabrini University on a number service initiatives such as immigration, clean water, social justice, and human trafficking, under the work of Mother Cabrini.

“I am excited to promote the young woman who serves as an ambassador for our beloved city and an advocate for her chosen platform,” Filling-Brown said.
