Cabrini Appoints Acting Provost and Dean

As Cabrini says goodbye to Jeff Gingerich, PhD, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the University announced Mark Kiselica, PhD, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, will serve as Acting Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs at Cabrini University beginning in June 2018.

At that time, Michelle Filling-Brown, PhD, Chair and Associate Professor of English, will serve as Acting Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Cabrini University.

“While we will certainly miss Jeff’s leadership at Cabrini, I’m excited to welcome Mark and Michelle in their new roles beginning in the summer of 2018,” said Donald B. Taylor, PhD, in an email to campus. “Mark and Michelle bring the necessary experience, skills, and temperament to be effective in these important roles and I’m very confident that they will succeed at the highest level.”

Kiselica joined Cabrini in 2016 as a founding dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. A licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor, and nationally certified counselor, Kiselica worked in a variety of mental health settings before making a transition to higher education, where he has acquired 28 years of experience as a tenured professor, teacher-scholar, and senior-level administrator. A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, he is the author of 150 professional publications, including five peer-reviewed books, and the recipient of numerous national and institutional awards for his teaching and service to the community.

Before serving as Cabrini’s Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kiselica held leadership roles including Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Psychology at Iona College, Dean of the School of Education and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at The College of New Jersey, and was an American Council on Education Fellow and member of the Senior Staff at Elizabethtown College. 

Filling-Brown joined the Cabrini English department a decade ago and has served as Chair of the department since 2015. Since joining Cabrini a decade ago, Filling-Brown has been instrumental in building transformational experiences for students, including her work developing the Gender and Body Studies major/minor with support from the KatherineAlexandra Foundation and has cultivated vital relationships with community partners to enrich her course curriculum.

She was awarded the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching also served as Chair of the Assessment Subcommittee during the Middle States Decennial and has presented at multiple Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) General Education and Assessment Conferences.

A classically trained dancer, she has also been the choreographer for Cabrini's theater and served as the Artistic Director from 2015-2017.
