Faculty Diversity Initiatives
Cabrini University is a community of students, staff, and educators that work to maintain its commitment to social justice. Below are the most recent achievements of our Faculty in support of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
To get involved in grant work, please contact Laura Chisholm, Director of Grants and Foundation Relations.
Publications
Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Fitzgerald on his publication in Inside Higher Ed that helps us to think about what you can do with a PhD outside of the academy through the lens of how he works with students in our Black Studies Program.
Congratulations to Dr. Nancy Watterson whose year of working on the National Advisory Committee for the Journal of Folklore and Education has led to the publication of a journal volume dedicated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives.
Congratulations to Drs. Persichetti, Watterson, Frechie, and Filling-Brown who served on the editorial board for the Body Studies Journal which published its 2020 issue (that includes a piece by Celia Szelwach). They also have a CFP posted for an issue on the events of 2020.
Grants
In Fiscal Year 2020, 72% of funded grants were related to DEI initiatives.
Current grant projects:
- PA Department of Education Aspire to Educate (A2E): This funding supports BIPOC students in the education department to ensure they are retained in the teaching profession
- Mexican Consulate IME Becas: This funding allows for scholarships for students of Mexican heritage.
Congratulations to Dr. Darryl Mace and Martell Oliver who each received a $1000 Racial Equity & Interfaith Cooperation Grant Award that is a part of the Interfaith Youth Core's We Are Each Other’s Campaign. This grant will help both of them to infuse the “We Are Each Other’s” curriculum into their spring 2021 American Studies courses.
