Tuition Exchange

In addition to Tuition Remission, Cabrini University participates in two programs with other institutions, “Tuition Exchange Scholarship” and the “Council of Independent Colleges.”

Tuition Exchange Scholarship
The Tuition Exchange Program allows for exchange among various participating colleges and universities.

  • Scholarships are currently limited, and the number available each year is dependent on credit balance.
  • Cabrini assumes no financial responsibility for any educational expenses if the program is suspended or terminated.
  • These benefits are not guaranteed.

Details about the Tuition Exchange program may be found on tuitionexchange.org.

Application for recertification students only: Tuition Exchange Application

The Tuition Exchange Scholarship is available to all employees at Cabrini University who have worked for two years or more of consecutive full-time employment immediately before Sept. 1 of the year in which the benefit is to be used.

  • Previous full-time employment at another College or University may be applied to the two-year waiting period.
  • An employee is eligible to apply for up to four years of the Tuition Exchange Scholarship for a dependent.
  • Years of part-time status do not count towards full-time service.
  • Double benefits are not permitted if both parents are employed at Cabrini University and meet these criteria.

Council of Independent Colleges
The Council of Independent Colleges Program allows Cabrini University to import three students per class level per year (maximum 12).

  • There is no limit on the number of exports.
  • These benefits are not guaranteed.

Details about the Council of Independent Colleges program and the CIC Tuition Exchange Program Application may be found at www.cic.edu/tep.

The Council of Independent Colleges scholarship is available to all employees at Cabrini University who have worked for one year or more of consecutive full-time employment immediately before Sept. 1 of the year in which the benefit is to be used.

  • Previous full-time employment at another College or University may be applied to the one-year waiting period.
  • An employee is eligible to apply for up to four years of the Council of Independent Colleges scholarship for a dependent.
  • Years of part-time status do not count towards full-time service.
  • Double benefits are not permitted if both parents are employed at Cabrini University and meet these criteria.

Guidelines

  • Questions about either program should be directed to Human Resources at 610.902.8206.

Employees should contact each school for information about procedures for application, notification, and financial aid.

  • Applicants must meet the admissions requirements for the “host” institution.
  • Employees are encouraged to seek other means of financial assistance and not to rely on the program as the sole source of funding.

Years of service are determined by adding to the effective date of full-time employment the number of twelve-month increments up to Sept. 1 of the year in use.

The benefit ceases with an employee’s resignation or termination, although the student will be permitted to continue to the end of the semester in progress.

The term “dependent” is defined as the natural, adopted, or stepchildren under the age of 24 of an employee or the children under the age of 24 from a previous marriage.

If an employee is appointed the legal guardian of a ward, the Director of Human Resources will consider a request for inclusion in the tuition-remission plan.

Tuition Exchange is available for dependent college-aged children of active employees. Dependent statuses are identified as defined by FAFSA. Changes in dependent status are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Limitations and Coverage

  • Admission: Children of eligible employees must make timely application and meet regular admissions requirements of the institution(s) to which they apply.
  • Maximums: Each eligible child cannot receive more than four years of reimbursement.

Procedure

  1. Application must be filed with Human Resources / Enrollment Office before Nov. 1 immediately preceding the academic year for which the scholarship is desired.
  2. Applications will be reviewed and employees will be informed of the status of applications by Dec. 15.
  3. All employees who apply after Nov. 1 will be ranked beneath applications submitted before Nov. 1.
  4. These applications will be ranked on a first-come, first-served basis and will be placed if space allows.

Any student granted a tuition-exchange award must accept it in writing by submitting the letter of acceptance, along with the acceptance letter from the participating institution, to the Human Resources / Enrollment Office by May 1 or forfeit the award to an alternate.

Awards may not be carried over to the next year, although reapplication may be made.
