Health and Safety Guidance

Personal Safety Practices

Adherence to personal safety practices protects you and others. We expect all employees to follow these practices to the fullest extent possible to maintain a safe and productive environment for all.

These guidelines are in place for all individuals at all times, not just once you become sick or are diagnosed with COVID-19. The CDC reports that even asymptomatic individuals may spread the disease before they know they are sick.

face maskFace Masks

Anyone on campus is required to wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose in all classrooms, public shared spaces on campus, and in areas where physical distancing cannot be observed. To comply with this guidance, everyone should have access to a sufficient supply of masks. In support of this initiative, one adjustable, reusable, washable cloth face mask will be distributed to employees and students. Additional disposable masks will be available on campus and for purchase in Cabrini’s Campus Store and at cabrinishop.com.

We plan to provide clear face shields for lecturing professors, to address audibility and accessibility concerns as well as audio quality concerns for the livestreamed counterpart to class attendance in the hyflex modality.

Cloth face coverings must be laundered daily to remain effective. For more face mask care and wear tips, see the CDC’s guidance for wearing and caring for cloth face masks.

You do not have to wear a mask when you are:

  • Alone in a confined room such as your office (does not include shared environments)
  • Alone in your personal vehicle
  • Actively eating or drinking (masks should be worn when you are getting your food/drinks and as soon as you have finished eating)
  • Lecturing (face shields should be worn when lecturing)

physical distancingPhysical Distancing

To prevent the spread COVID-19 on campus, Cabrini is following the CDC’s recommendations to stay six feet from others, both indoors and outdoors, and not gather in large groups. When participating in athletic activity, the recommended guideline is to stay 13 feet from others.

handwashingHandwashing

Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, or touching your face, and always before eating and after using the restroom. If you cannot wash your hands, use a hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol. Cabrini has installed additional hand sanitizing stations for your use throughout campus.

Gloves

According to the CDC, wearing gloves isn’t necessary to reduce the spread of the disease. Gloves are usually included in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for healthcare workers and others in high-risk areas rather than the general public.

Face shieldGoggles/Face Shields

Goggles and face shields aren’t necessary for general activity on campus. According to the CDC, the most effective means of protecting yourself from infection are handwashing, mask wearing, and physical distancing.

CleaningCleaning/Disinfection

Enhanced cleaning and sanitation efforts will continue through the arrival of employees and students. The CSI staff has been conducting appropriate disinfecting procedures throughout campus at increased frequencies. High-touch areas such as entryways, exits, and public bathrooms will be cleaned at minimum three times per day. Hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout buildings in high-traffic areas for use as needed. Additional signage, floor markings to support appropriate physical distancing, and acrylic shields at counter service desks have also been installed to promote best practices and adherence to guidelines.

Classrooms will be thoroughly disinfected to start each day, and cleaning materials will be provided for sanitizing throughout the day and between uses.

Coughing SneezingCoughing/Sneezing Hygiene

Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a tissue or the crook of your arm and wash your hands for 20 seconds afterward.
