Jennifer Specht, PhD, RN

Founding Director, Nursing Program
Chair, Nursing Department

Jennifer Specht, PhD, RN, has more than a decade of academic nursing education experience, as well as nursing leadership and administrative experience. She is focused on â€‹answering the call for nursing leaders to integrate health equity, the care of vulnerable and underserved populations, and interprofessional collaboration into nursing curricula.

Specht has expertise in mentoring and leadership development, as well as program and curricular development and evaluation. She has published and presented her work nationally and internationally and has authored a chapter related to nursing leadership in the National League for Nursing’s book Core Competencies for Nurse Educators: A Decade of Influence. 

She served on the Board of Directors for the Mu Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau at DeSales University, has reviewed grant funding proposals related to her areas of expertise, and served as a consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Her clinical experience consists of postsurgical and cardiothoracic intensive care nursing.

Specht has extensive experience in administrative roles, most recently as the Dean/Director of Aria Health School of Nursing. She has taught research, leadership, medical/surgical, and critical care courses to undergraduate and graduate nursing students at DeSales University, Moravian College, and Widener University.

Specht earned a doctorate from Villanova University with a focus on nursing education, a Master of Science in Nursing degree from DeSales University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Villanova University.
