Participants will advocate to members of Congress for more just immigration policies, with particular focus on a clean DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform.  Please fill out the Advocacy Day Form and email it to  immigration@cabrini.edu if you would like to participate.

Border Symposium

Decolonizing the Borderlands: Root Causes, Resilience, and Resistance. This symposium co-sponsored with The Jordan Center will consider the heightened risks of trauma, increased human rights abuses, and systematic denial of legal rights people in migration encounter at the U.S.-Mexico border.  Keynote Juan González, journalist and author ofHarvest of Empire, will discuss the impact of U.S. foreign policy on contemporary challenges at the border.  Panelists will include Ivelisse Torres Fernandez, PhD, psychologist and Associate Professor at Carlos Albizu University, who studies trauma at the border; Nicole Ramos, Esq., attorney and Director of Refugee Services at Al Otro Lado in California; and a member of the legal defense team for No More Deaths/No Más Muertes, a volunteer-led collective that works to alleviate death and suffering in the borderlands, whose volunteers have faced federal charges for their humanitarian work.

Symposium: Trauma and Trafficking

The Barbara and John Jordan Center for Children of Trauma and Domestic Violence Education and the Center on Immigration co-sponsored a half-day symposium focused on the issue of human trafficking.  This free event included speaker Barbara Amaya and a panel of experts and advocates.

Financial Literacy Program

In collaboration with the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia, Center on Immigration financial literacy instructors provided various informational sessions addressing financial topics such as taxes, Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN), bank accounts at home and abroad, educational loans, retirement accounts, and mortgages.

Citizenship Day

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Philadelphia Chapter, in collaboration with sponsoring local partners, including the Center on Immigration, offered its annual Citizenship Day. The event provides free citizenship screening for all individuals and free citizenship application preparation for eligible Lawful Permanent Residents.
