Cabrini graphic design students at drafting tables

Jeanne Komp

Associate Professor, Graphic Design

Jeanne Komp believes in encouraging and motivating students as designers and morally responsible citizens—an approach she has used since joining the Cabrini faculty in 2006.

A clear and concise design process is fundamental in Komp’s teaching, as she finds that it allows students to focus on each task.

Komp’s academic interest in typography, letterpress and visual culture has led to the development of new courses in the major and core curriculum, as well as co‑curricular activities.

Always looking for a public outlet for her students, Komp has implemented several student design competitions into her courses. Cabrini students’ work has been exhibited in multiple events sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, including the “Wear Your Voice” T-shirt Competition (2006), “Campaign to Sustain” Poster Competition (2009), and the “BYOB” Nutrition-centered Bag Competition (2011).

Komp earned a master of science degree in digital design at Philadelphia University, and a bachelor of fine arts in communication design with a minor in public relations at Kutztown University.

Her master’s thesis was the creation of typehype.net, an award-winning interactive website to assist students in developing typographic skills and enhance undergraduate graphic design education.
