Theatre Auditions
All Cabrini students are invited to audition for student theatre productions. The fall production is usually a play, and the spring production is usually a musical.

Spring Musical 2022 – Little Shop of Horrors in Concert
Auditions will be held Wednesday, January 19th at 7:00pm in Grace Hall Theatre.
- To prepare for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CONCERT auditions:
- Please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show (not from the show)
- Have a backup song in case we ask you to sing something else
- Please print and fill out your audition form and bring it with you
- Please print and bring sides with you
- Read through the character breakdown and research the show so you know what you're auditioning for!
- There is no dance audition for this show
- Complete the Audition Form and bring with you to your audition.
- Bring a headshot and attach to your audition form. This does not need to be a professionally taken photo, but one that clearly captures your head/shoulders.
- Read over the audition materials. Be prepared to read any part.
Please be prepared to sing a song of your own choice (see Tips below). - Please dress prepared to move for a dance/musical theater movement audition.
- Be prepared to attend callbacks.
Tips for a Successful Musical Audition:
- Consider a song choice that complements your voice, showcases your range, and, if possible, stylistically is similar to The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
- Do not be upset if the directors cut you off prior to the end of your song. This only means they have heard enough to make a determination about your audition.
- Keep in mind that this means you should pick 16 to 32 measures of a song that showcases your talent.
- Know the background of the song you select so that you can inflect the appropriate emotion and dynamics.
- Read the audition materials in advance. Look up words that you do not know and learn how to pronounce them. Think about the characters and consider things like What do they want? Who do they love? Who has the power?
- Research the show and understand the basic plotline and characters prior to your audition.
- Have your music clearly marked where you want the accompanist to start and stop.
- Do not have several loose sheets of music. Either tape them together accordion-style if there are four or fewer pages or put them in a binder (and if you have protective plastic pages, even better!).
- If you are using music that is in a book, copy the pages and secure them in a binder, unless you are certain the book will lie flat.
- Print legibly on your Audition Form.
- Don’t make excuses about your voice or apologize. Just do your best!
- Be flexible.
- Don’t let something scare you away from auditioning. Have confidence in yourself!
- Have fun!
A final note: we do not precast shows or rely on seniority. However, students’ past reliability and professionalism in Cabrini Theatre may impact casting.
Every student will receive a fair, professional audition and casting will be determined by the directors.
We hope that everyone who auditions will participate in our theatre program, whether that’s on stage, behind the scenes, or in other opportunities that we will offer to get involved.
