Thomas Conway, EdD

Chairperson and Associate Professor of Teacher Education 

Thomas R. Conway, EdD is an expert in Instructional Coaching, Curriculum Development, Socio-Cultural Education, Secondary Education, and Educational Leadership. In 2015, he joined Cabrini Faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Teacher Education Department.

Prior to working full-time in higher education, he taught high school history and political science classes at a variety of educational settings for 19 years. He teaches methods and content area reading courses for secondary education majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research areas include instructional coaching/mentoring, leadership, educational technology, and socio-cultural issues.

During the 2019-2020 academic year. Dr. Conway was awarded two major grants from the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) that will assist with professional development of the early childhood workforce in Pennsylvania. Since then, he has secured grants from Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) to provide coursework opportunities for Early Childhood workers.

Dr. Conway serves as co-chair for the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) Taskforce on Addressing the Needs of Cooperating/Mentor/Associate Teachers in their Practices and Roles as Mentors and Supervisors of the Novice Teacher.  In addition to this taskforce, Dr. Conway serves on several conference planning committees for ATE. He was recently appointed to serve on ATE’s Commission on Advocacy and chair ATE’s Public Relations and Communications committee.

Dr. Conway has participated in AACTE’s Leadership Academy, presented at their annual conferences, and has reviewed proposals for their organization. He is an active AERA member. He is an at-large board member for the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators (PAC-TE). He served as the conference chair for PAC-TE’s Fall 2020 Teacher Education Assembly. He serves as Co-Editor of PAC-TE’s journal – The Pennsylvania Educator.

Finally, he enjoys living in the Philadelphia region because of the variety of cultural experiences the area provides and the ability to travel to locations within the U.S. and around the world.

Conway earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education/Social Studies and a Master of Arts in Theological and Pastoral Studies from La Salle University. He earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University.
