Commencement 2023 FAQs

Ceremony and Tickets 

How will Commencement be held this year? 
Two graduation ceremonies will be held at separate times in the Dixon Center on Sunday, May 21.

  • 10am - School of Arts and Sciences
  • 1pm -  School of Business, Education, and Professional Studies

Will students be able to change the time of their ceremony? 
No, we are unable to honor any requests to change the time of your ceremony. The two graduation ceremonies will be held  at different times for Cabrini’s Schools in order to accommodate our graduates and their guests. 

How many guests may graduates bring to their ceremony?
Each senior will reserve four specific seats for their guests through a link that will be sent from Eventbrite. Each guest requires a ticket, including children and infants. No strollers will be permitted in Dixon. There will be no standing room for extra guests, nor will guests be allowed to stand inside the Dixon Center with no tickets.

Can I get extra tickets?
Each student will receive a link from Eventbrite to order (at no cost) tickets to their specific Commencement Ceremony and a parking pass. Admission to Commencement is by ticket only. Each graduate will receive 4 guest tickets. NO ONE will be permitted admittance to the Commencement without a ticket. Request for additional tickets can be made at Commencement Kickoff. Additional tickets are not guaranteed and will be raffled off one week prior to graduation. The Commencement Ceremonies will be live streamed on May 21, 2023 at cabrini.edu/commencementstream.

To enter campus on May 21, each person must show their valid Eventbrite ticket.  

For those who cannot attend the event in person, a live stream of each ceremony will be available to view in real-time on the University’s Youtube page

How will I receive my tickets?
Seniors and graduate students will receive an email with the Eventbrite link to reserve tickets (four guest tickets in total). Tickets must be ordered no later than Wednesday, May 10.

Can you accommodate attendees with disabilities?
Cabrini University welcomes persons with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations upon request. If you would like reasonable accommodations for this event, please contact academicaffairs@cabrini.edu by May 1. The request for handicapped parking will be reserved via Eventbrite when you reserve your tickets.

What are the parking arrangements for Commencement?  
All guests will park in Founder’s Lot. Please try to carpool and arrive on campus in one car. Public Safety officers and signage will help direct guests.

What should I do after I arrive on campus?  
All graduates should report to Grace Hall at their assigned Commencement time, dressed in their academic attire.  

Do Master's students have any special instructions for diploma-granting on the stage during Commencement?
Yes, like Doctoral students, Master's students will be announced with special recognition and will be seated together and called to the stage separately from undergraduate students.  Students will receive more detailed instructions as it gets closer to Commencement.

Do doctoral students have any special instructions for hooding and diploma-granting on the stage during Commencement?
Yes, doctoral students are to carry their hoods on their arm, because they will be hooded on the stage by their dissertation chair. Students will receive more detailed instructions from their doctoral program directors/coordinators as it gets closer to Commencement.

Will professional photos be taken of each graduate? 
Three professional photographers will be present at each Commencement ceremony.  A photo will be taken of each student on the graduation stage, as well as a posed picture in front of a Cabrini backdrop with their diploma cover when exiting the stage. These photos will be available to download for free within a week of the ceremony at cabrini.edu/photos.

Where can I purchase flowers or gifts to give to my graduate at Commencement?
Families wishing to purchase flowers for their graduate on Commencement Day can pre-order bouquets online at thecommencementgroup.com/cabriniu. All proceeds benefit the Alumni Association’s Endowed Scholarship fund. 

What if my guests or I test positive for Covid-19?
If you or your guests test positive for Covid-19, we ask that you not attend commencement.

Are there any requirements for graduation that I should be aware of?  
Yes. Please check the information about requirements that must be completed for Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and the Registrar’s Office in order to participate in Commencement.

Academic Attire 

How will graduates receive their academic attire (cap, gown, and hood)? 
Please place an order for your attire by March 14. Herff-Jones is sending all attire to the Campus Store and will be available for pickup during Commencement Kickoff in Grace Hall Atrium. if you didn't place an order for your attire, you should still go to Commencement Kickoff. They will have extras for those who didn’t order in advance.  

How should my academic attire be worn?

Can I wear a stole or club pin on my gown?
Registered clubs who have received approval from SEaL and Academic Affairs for an official stole can order them for their members. Students may wear multiple stoles to Commencement, but will need to get approval from SEaL and Academic Affairs. Club pins can also be approved to be ordered and worn during Commencement. Multiple club pins may be worn.

I missed Commencement Kick-Off.  How do I get my cap and gown?
Check your email for directions on how to complete the necessary tasks to receive your cap and gown from the Bookstore. If you missed CKO and didn't receive an email, please email academicaffairs@cabrini.edu.

How will students receive honor cords and medals?

  • Honor cords: Faculty advisors will distribute the honor cords for each honor society. Reach out to your specific advisor for more information.
  • Departmental and honors medals: You will be contacted with instructions for picking up your medal from the Department Chair of the Honors Director.

Commencement Mass

Will other events associated with Commencement be held?  
Members of the Class of 2023 and their families are invited to share in the celebration of the Commencement Mass on Saturday, May 20, at 4pm in the Bruckmann Memorial Chapel of Saint Joseph. 

Do I wear academic attire to Commencement Mass?
Students do not need to wear their cap and gown to mass. 

Diplomas 

  • Students will receive diploma covers at the ceremonies.
  • The Registrar’s Office will mail official diplomas to graduates in July.
  • Cabrini University diploma frames can be ordered here.
