RADNOR, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2013) — The Cabrini College Nerney Leadership Institute launches its inaugural Executive-in-Residence program Oct. 24, 2013, with presenter Thomas P. Nerney '77, Chair, President and CEO of USLI (United States Liability Insurance Group).
The day-long program culminates with a campus-wide presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mansion Foyer on the Cabrini College campus (610 King of Prussia Road, Wayne, Pa.)
The public is invited to this free event.
The College hosts the program as part of the Nerney Leadership Institute, introduced in April. The Executive-in-Residence initiative brings leaders in the corporate and non-profit sectors to serve one- or two-day long residencies at the College.
The leaders are selected for their extraordinary spiritual, emotional, and organizational leadership accomplishments. During the inaugural Executive-in-Residence event, Nerney will meet with students, faculty, and staff to discuss his style of leadership as it relates to his work, volunteer efforts, and personal life.
Nerney brings years of leadership experience to his role as chair, president and chief executive officer for USLI. Previously, he served as president and chief operating officer for Philadelphia Insurance Companies.
He was part of the senior management for 18 years before joining USLI in 1996. Nerney serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Cabrini College.
He earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from The Haub School of Business at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, and he was inducted into The Haub School of Business Hall of Fame in April 2009. Nerney earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Philosophy while at Cabrini.
Nerney and his wife Jill ’77 are founding members of A Front Row Seat to Learning and The Nerney Family Foundation, two local not-for-profit organizations. They are former members of the Board of Trustees at La Salle Academy, a school for students in grades three through eight whose parents and guardians desire, but cannot afford, a quality Catholic education.
Nerney is also a former member of the Board at Main Line Health Systems and a former member of the Board at Cristo Rey Philadelphia, a high school dedicated to providing a Catholic college-preparatory education for students of all faiths who cannot otherwise afford a private education.
In collaboration with Nerney, Cabrini College established the Nerney Leadership Institute in spring 2013 to develop a new paradigm for leadership education at the College. Further options for leadership development are now available at Cabrini, from a certificate program to a minor and a master’s degree.
