Holy Spirit Library is pleased to offer the Cabrini College community access to current technology for research, collaboration, and personal use. The library provides more than forty network computers to access Cavalog and electronic books, databases, ejournals, ereserves, Internet, and Microsoft Office applications. The majority of library computers are connected to network printers. To access the library computers students, faculty, and staff need a valid Cabrini College username and password.
On the main level, twenty computers are available in the library’s Information Commons. In additions, four computers, which do not require students, faculty, and staff authentication, are available for e-mail and other quick access to the Internet. Also located on the main level are two dedicated Cavalog computers to access the library’s catalog and other library resources.
On the lower level, the library’s Information Literacy Instruction Lab provides an environment for librarians to offer course-integrated information literacy instruction. The lab houses 22 network computers, a Sympodium, and DVD and VHS player. The network computers are available for student, faculty, and staff use when information literacy instruction is not in session.
On the second floor, one dedicated Cavalog network computer is available to search the library’s catalog and other library resources.
Twenty-seven iPads and thirteen Surfaces are available for students to borrow for a 3 day loan period during the fall and spring semesters and a one week loan period during the summer. Many apps are already downloaded to the iPads and you are welcome to download your own, but all content will be erased upon the iPad being returned to the library. iPads may not be renewed and a $10 per day late fee will be incurred if not returned on time.
Ten laptop computers are available for students, faculty, and staff to borrow for in-building use. These computers are equipped with Microsoft Office applications and will connect to the library’s wireless network. Power supplies are available for use with laptops.
Holy Spirit Library is part of the campus wireless network. Students, faculty, and staff may borrow the library’s laptops to connect to the wireless network within the building. Students, faculty, and staff may use their personal laptop to connect to the library’s wireless network. To connect to the wireless network personal laptop wireless cards must first be registered with ITR. A guest wireless connection is available to visitors on a temporary basis.
To connect to the wireless network in Holy Spirit Library, personal laptop wireless cards must first be registered with ITR. Directions to register your personal laptop wireless card with ITR please visit their Web site at http://www.cabrini.edu/itr/wireless/.
The majority of library computers are connected to network printers. To discourage waste and to cover some of the cost of printing, students are given an allotment of free printing each semester and charged for printing above that amount. The printing policy was developed by Information Technology and Resources Department. Students can check their print usage at http://www.cabrini.edu/paper
Students may print up to $35 (equivalent to 350 black and white pages) of paper every 6 months free-of-charge, which is tracked through our system of authentication (log-on). After reaching the limit of $35, a student must pay an additional printing fee of $25 to the Business Office, as is done for all other college bills. Once the fee is paid, the student’s print count will have an additional $25 (equivalent to 250 black and white pages) added to it. If you have purchased paper in addition to the default $35 per 6 months, the extra you have bought will carry forward throughout your college career. Please use this balance before graduation.
Cabrini College provides students, faculty, and staff with network space to save files for use across campus. This network space is available on the H: drive. Students, faculty, and staff are directed to save all documents to their H: drive to ensure the document will be available in the future. Saving documents on the desktop of library computers is prohibited as the library cannot ensure the proper storage of these files. Find more information about your H: drive here: http://www.cabrini.edu/itr/accounts/accounts/network-storage.shtml
