Installing Symantec Antivirus (Mac)
Do you already have antivirus software installed?
If you already have Symantec provided by Cabrini College ITR installed on your computer, you just need to run LiveUpdate; you do not need to reinstall the antivirus software.
If you have any other antivirus software, you must uninstall it and then install Symantec with the instructions below.
Installing Symantec
Downloading and Installing Symantec
- Download the file: Symantec for Mac (requires domain log-in that isn't expired).
- Save the file to your desktop
- Double click on the file titled "Symantec Endpoint Protection.tar.gz"
- A new window will appear. Double click the icon labeled "Symantec Endpoint Protection.mpkg"
- Click on the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede.
- Click on the "Continue" button on the next screen the screen to procede.
- Read the Software License Agreement, and click the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede
- Choose "Unmanaged" and click the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede
- Click "Continue" or choose a new location to install the program if you wish.
- Click the install button and, if prompted, put in the administrator username and password for the computer.
- You may be warned that Symantec will log you out after installing, click Continue Installation to proceed.
- When the installation is finished, click Log Out, and wait for your computer to log you out.
- Log back in to your computer, and you have now finished installed Symantec Endpoint Protection.
Installing Symantec using a CD
- Insert the CD from the ITR Guide to Technology into your computer
- Double click on the folder labeled "Symantec Antivirus"
- Double click on the folder labeled "Mac"
- Double click on the file titled "Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg"
- A new window will appear. Double click the icon labeled "Symantec Endpoint Protection.mpkg"
- Click on the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede.
- Click on the "Continue" button on the next screen the screen to procede.
- Read the Software License Agreement, and click the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede
- Choose "Unmanaged" and click the "Continue" button on the bottom of the screen to procede
- Click "Continue" or choose a new location to install the program if you wish.
- Click the install button and, if prompted, put in the administrator username and password for the computer.
- You may be warned that Symantec will log you out after installing, click Continue Installation to proceed.
- When the installation is finished, click Log Out, and wait for your computer to log you out.
- Log back in to your computer, and you have now finished installed Symantec Endpoint Protection.
To run LiveUpdate (Required even if you already have Symantec installed):
- Click on the Symantec Icon on the top right corner of the screen, typically a yellow circle with a black check mark.
- Choose "Live Update" from the drop down menu, then choose "Update Everything Now"
- If updates are available, choose "Install"
- If the Symantec Icon is not displayed on the top right corner, go to the applications folder in Finder and double click the Symantec Solutions folder
- a. Double click on the Live Update, and when the window opens, click the "Update Everything Now" link.
- If updates are available, choose "Install"
If you don't see it, Symantec probably did not install correctly. Call the ITR office at 610-902-8366 for assistance or stop by our office in Founders Hall 108.
