Student Printing Policy
Printing on the Cabrini College campus is available from computers in the Library and most campus computer labs and classrooms. To discourage waste and to cover some of the cost of printing, students are given an allotment of free printing
every six months or less and charged for printing above that amount.
Free Printing Allotment
Students may print up to 350 pages (i.e. $35 at 10 cents a page) every six months
or less free-of-charge, which is tracked through our system of authentication (log-on). After reaching the limit of 350 free copies, a student must pay an additional printing fee of $25 to the Business Office, as is done for all other college bills.
This transaction can be completed online at
http://www.cabrini.edu/paper. Once the fee is paid, the student’s print count will be reset to an additional 250 pages, which will be available for use until graduation.
Every six months or less, starting on the student's first date of printing after August 2010, the free allotment of printing will be reset to 350 pages.
This policy was changed in August 2010 from a free allotment of 250 pages every
semester to a free allotment of 350 pages every six months or less. This change
gives students more printing flexibility and quantity. Now extra paper bought beyond the free allotment
carries over from
semester to semester, rather than expiring at the end of every semester as it
previously had done. The new policy also allows improved tracking of
printing and transaction histories.
Tips to Help Reduce Printing
Ideas for Students
Students should copy and paste internet text into Microsoft Word. This eliminates printing unwanted banner ads and other items that sometimes cause a print job to run a page over.
In Microsoft Office applications, students should do as much editing as possible before printing a copy. Utilize the Spelling and Grammar options along with Print Preview before printing.
Print Preview verifies the number of pages that will be printed so blank pages can be caught before they are printed out.
To avoid printing any banners at the bottom of any pages, go to File, Print Preview and count the number of pages that should be printed. Then, under File, Print, in the Print Range area, choose the pages to print out instead of printing All pages.
In PowerPoint, under File, Print, change the Print what: option to print handouts instead of slides. This option will print multiple slides per page.
Students need to log off any public computer they use. If the user is not properly logged off, another student could potentially go to that computer since it is already on. If they print anything from that computer, the previous user will be assessed those pages. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. ITR will not be held responsible if someone else has printed from your account.
Ideas for Faculty
If students have a group project which requires a printout, have one student e-mail the rest of the group with the file attached to it. Then, print out the file in sections i.e. Student 1 prints pages 1-10, Student 2 prints pages 11-20, etc.
For mass copies of text that is required for class, faculty should copy material in the Copy Center on the second floor of Grace Hall.
Allow students to hand in assignments through e-mail. The faculty member can decide which papers they feel are most important to print out and can print them on a departmental printer.
Allow students to burn PowerPoint presentations or other large files onto a CD to hand in to the instructor. The students could continually add files to their CDs throughout the semester and create a portfolio for the faculty member and/or themselves.
If students need to hand in printed PowerPoint presentations, they could change the print options so multiple slides are saved on one page. This is done by going to File, Print, and changing the Print what: option to print handouts instead of slides.
Post any syllabi, homework assignments, etc. from any course directories to BbVista. Students who live off-campus will be able to access those items from home versus printing them off.
