Cabrini College - Information Technology & Resources
Electronic Mass Communication at Cabrini
General Considerations
The preferred method of electronic communication with the Cabrini College community is the web. Individuals affiliated with the College (faculty, staff, students) may create web pages associated with their own Cabrini computeraccounts.
Items for the entire campus community are best covered through Today At Cabrini.
A submission form for Today at Cabrini announcements is available through the online Style Guide at
www.cabrini.edu/styleguide
Electronic mailing lists, hosted on the Drexel University list server, have been established for the following Cabrini College groups:
- Three Super Lists Handled by Subscription
- All students
- All faculty and staff
- All faculty, staff and students
- Nine Sublists Handled by Subscription
- Freshman
- Sophomore
- Junior
- Senior
- Certificate
- Masters
- Non-Matriculated
A limited number of administrative departments have the capability of sending mass mailings to these lists. Other mailings, approved by appropriate academic and/or administrative officials, may be referred to the ITRHelpDesk for transmission to these lists. (Send the text of the message along with confirmation of approval and target audience to Campus-Email@cabrini.edu.)
Do not attempt to send out mass mailings (e.g., to more than 20 recipients) through your normal email account. This is wasteful of system resources, infringes the privacy of your recipients (by sharing their email addresses with the wide world), and is a violation of Cabrini's Acceptable Use Policy.
For submission of mass mailing requests to ITR:
Mass mail requests require the approval of a Vice President or President of Cabrini College.
Mass mail requests should include the following: - Name of contact person including person's telephone number and email address.
- Name of mailing lists to which mail should be sent (see above).
- Name, title, telephone, and email of official authorizing the request.
- Date when mail should be sent.
- Content of message in plain text format.
Note that: - All messages are sent in 9-point Arial. Messages cannot contain formatting usually associated with a word processing or HTML file; specifically, no different fonts, boldface, italic, variable type sizes, centering, attachments, or graphics
- References to web pages are encouraged; the URLs should be written out in the text, not simply given as live links
- ITR requires one business day to process a message after its receipt with approval. Be mindful also that, once sent, mass mailings may take a considerable length of time to be processed by the server
- Editing of content is the responsibility of the requester. Don't ask to have message re-sent to correct your errors
- ITR recommends that events be announced at least three days and not more than ten days before the event. Reminder messages are strongly discouraged
- No commercial messages are accepted except those deemed beneficial to Cabrini College
- Mass mail lists will not be sold, rented, given, or otherwise made available to groups or individuals outside Cabrini College
