Searching the Internet
The Internet is vast, but there are techniques for finding quality sites. The links below provide a good foundation for finding and evaluating resources on the web.
  1. The Librarians' Index to the Internet is kind of an academic Yahoo, with topics ranging from Ancient History to Recipes. Click on "Searching the Internet" for links to "Best Search Engines", "Best Subject Indexes" and other search tools.

  2. John December is a private computer consultant with his own rather complete guide to the Internet.

  3. Finding Information on the Internet: A TUTORIAL from the University of California, Berkeley, includes basic information about the Internet as well as more in-depth articles, such as, "Can You Trust the Web? - Evaluating and Citing Web Pages & Sites".

  4. The Spider's Apprentice is produced by Monash Information Services, which provides consulting services to the software and internet/online services industries. "We explain to you how search engines work. We advise you on improving your own search engine ranking by careful use of meta tags and keywords.
