Beginner's HTML Tutorial using Frontpage
Here is a very basic tutorial on creating a web page using Microsoft Frontpage, our recommended web page creation software. Please bear in mind that this is meant as a beginner's aid, not as an in depth lesson. If you are interested in learning how to design and publish your own web pages, look for workshops that are offered by our department.
  1. Open Microsoft FrontPage. Begin by opening a new page if one is not automatically there. To do this go to the [File] menu then to "New" and then to "Page".

  2. Notice how the FrontPage tool bar looks like many of the other Microsoft Office toolbars.

  3. Formating text in FrontPage is very similar to formating text in Word. You can: Bold, Italize, and Resize

  4. You can also: Align (left, right, or center), and create: Bulleted Lists, Numbered Lists, and Indented Paragaphs

  5. You may turn any of your text into hyperlinks by simply selecting the word or phrase. Then click the [Hyperlink] button on the tool bar.

  6. A window will open and you will type in the correct URL (web address) for the page you would like to link to. Then select [OK]. Note how the color of your selected text has changed and it now is underlined. This shows that it is a hyperlink

  7. Another thing you can do is Insert a graphic into your page. Prior to doing this make sure that the you have a copy of the graphic saved as either GIF or JPG. Also be sure that it is saved in the same location as your HTML file

  8. Go to [Insert] then to "Image". Find the image file and click "Open". Your image will be inserted where ever the cursor was last flashing

  9. You may also insert tables into your page. Go to [Table] then to "Insert Table". You will see a window that looks like the one on the right called "Table Properties". Determine the size of your table. How many rows and columns will you need? Increase or decrease those numbers as needed. Close the "Table Properties" window by clicking on the button in the upper right hand corner. You can enter text, graphics, or even another table in the table that you just created
