User ID and Password FAQ

A Cabrini User ID and password grants you access to resources on the Cabrini network. Every User ID is unique, and your password must adhere to certain rules.

Why do I need a User ID?
You will need a Cabrini User ID and password to:

obtain an email account
download site-licensed software
use computer labs on campus
request web space
access network resources

How do I get one?
Students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a Cabrini User ID. You can apply for an account by following this link: Pick up account and click on pick up your first account.
Can I use any password?
Since security is the whole reason for having a password, we have some rules to make sure that passwords aren't easy for strangers to guess.

One of the best ways to choose a password that follows the rules is to make up a sentence, then use the first letter of each word as a letter in your password. For example: "Orange elephants for sale in Alaska", by using this sentence you could come up with a password like Oe4siA.

Using both upper and lowercase letters makes the password even more difficult. This sort of password is easy to remember because it is meaningful to the person who thought of it, but is very difficult for anyone else to guess since it is essentially a random string of characters.

The password must be between 6 and 8 characters in length.
It must have at least two letters and at lease one non-letter in it.
The password can't be a word in any dictionary.
The new password has to be different than the old one in at least three characters. That is, you can't just change one character.
If you ignore the beginning and ending characters that are not letters, the remaining characters must contain a non-letter.
Because passwords are sometimes compromised, it is wise to change your password frequently. It is policy to have passwords expire every 90 days. You will be required to change it or you will not be permitted to log in. One way to change your passwords so they're all the same is the Password Reset Wizard.
Note: Keep in mind that your Cabrini User ID is not a secret, but your password is. Never disclose it, even to a friend.
Do not embed your password in any script used to access Cabrini automatically or post it where someone may see it.
You could be held accountable for use of your Cabrini User ID by others!

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, visit the password reset page for instructions.
My account is locked out. What can I do?
Your account will become locked out if a password that is unknown to the system is used multiple times. This may be due to typing the incorrect password or using the caps lock (passwords are case-sensitive). If you are not sure that your password is correct, follow the instructions mentioned in the section above.
